Get a free quoteMost Hills hedges are lilly pilly, murraya, photinia or Leighton green cypress, planted for privacy and now two or three metres taller than intended. We trim to a clean line, reduce height where the species will tolerate it, and tell you honestly when a hedge is past saving.
Timing matters. Lilly pilly and murraya bounce back from hard cuts in the warmer months; conifers won't regrow from bare wood at all, so reductions have to stay within the green. We'll advise before cutting.
Clippings are removed and the area blown clean. For ongoing maintenance we can set a schedule, typically two or three visits a year.

Questions about hedge trimming and shaping
Can you reduce a hedge that's grown too tall?
Usually, yes. Lilly pilly, murraya and photinia can be cut back hard and will regrow. Conifer hedges can only be reduced to the green growth; cutting into bare wood leaves permanent gaps.
Do hedges need council approval?
Generally no, as hedges are usually exempt from tree controls, but some large hedge species can be treated as trees once they reach a certain size. We'll confirm if there's any doubt.
